GROOVY, DRUG, LIES, MURDER: BY JUNE AHERN

When Flower Power Ignites into Fire Power

City of Redemption - A Summer of Love Thriller

"City of Redemption" tells of the dark underbelly of the '60's. It is a vividly recounted, suspenseful story where lies, betrayal, sex, drugs, and murder lead to a woman's imprisonment.

Liz MacKay, a lonely young woman, entangles herself in a treacherous plot and murder during the Summer of Love.

It is 1984, and Liz waits to be paroled for the murder of former commune member, Ricky Martinez. Is she guilty? She says yes.

Her attorney and friend, Toni Bordeaux, disagrees and tells Liz she has paid her debt!

In 1967, Liz's young son was kidnapped and murdered. Partly to blame for her young son's death and abandoned by her husband, Liz leaves Scotland in disgrace, hoping for a second chance at love and life.

She arrives in San Francisco during the Summer of Love to have a "jolly good time" with the free-loving, groovy people

She joins a commune of a curious mix: Black Panthers Toni and her boyfriend, Bobby, trying to change the world, Sam, a Vietnam vet, seeking inner peace with a warrior past, a kindhearted, flamboyant hairdresser, Mason, ready for fame and love, a ditzy flower child named Cat, and her callous drug dealing boyfriend, Ricky, who loves his girlfriends then quickly tosses them aside.

At first, Liz is happy to have found a welcoming home, but as her new roommates pry into her mysterious past, Liz's search for a "jolly good time" brings more grief and a worsening drug addiction. She becomes unwittingly embroiled in a plot to bring down the Black Panthers and knows how to save her Panther friend Toni as a way to redeem herself for her part in her son's death.

Telling her plot to another roommate, Liz is warned, "Keep your mouth shut." With a passionate zeal and with help from a co-conspirator, she seizes the chance to save Toni and Bobby. But can she save her friends, or will she just watch her commune family break apart?

No one expects anything heroic from Liz, especially   .

EUROPEANS LOVE GHOST STORIES

European sales outsell U.S. sales of my book, "How to Talk With Spirits: Seances. Mediums. Ghost Hunts"

Sales are good in the States but still I wonder why? Are Europeans more aware and accepting of spirits and ghosts? Read a sample at Smashwords.com  or Amazon

I was born in Scotland and ghost stories were thrilling to hear, even as youngsters. We kids loved them, but of course, were scared too. My mother was a great storyteller complete with the stops, the stares, and the tones in her voice creating an ominous  atmosphere.

When we emigrated did we bring ghosts with us? Seemed to be our new homes in the U.S. always came with ghosts.  Can they cling to you? Travel and move with you? Ghosts do surround me and thus for over forty years I've been in communication with them.

When researching for my book I came across Scottish Ancestory site that said Scotland is thought to be one of the most haunted country's in the world.

Scottish Ancestry:
Scotland is widely thought to be one of the most haunted countries in the World, and home to more ghosts, ghouls, banshees and long-leggety beasties than anywhere else. Much of the folklore surrounding the ghosts of Scotland have appeared in literature stretching back centuries, and have their roots in the mists of time... The history of Scotland has oft been bloody and violent, with clan wars and centuries of fighting with the English.

Russia - one can only imagine - has its ghost hauntings too (from Hauntings in Russia).
Our reporters found out that there are many ghosts in Russia. Capitals have the majority of them, however, there are also many ghosts in Russian province, local legends and people say. Little remained from ancient Moscow, except for the Kremlin. Ghosts love the Kremlin.

In my book you'll learn much more about how to communicate with spirits of your dead loved ones and how to avoid vampire spirits.

My novel, The Skye in June, features a psychic child and her challenges.

FINDING GHOSTS - BEST HAUNTED LOCATIONS

-->
How to Talk With Spirits:
Seances • Mediums • Ghost Hunts

Excerpt
GHOST HUNTS
There is something haunting in the light of the moon.
– Joseph Conrad –
THROUGHOUT HISTORY, ghost encounters and haunted houses have thrilled many people. Wide-eyed children and breath-holding adults sit around darkened rooms listening to spooky stories, hanging on every ghoulish detail and shrieking at the Big Moment of Fright. People line up at amusement parks to ride into dark tunnels where the “unknown” awaits to thrill them. Movies with girls screaming, and boys hiding their screams behind nervous giggles have been popular since the first three minute horror movie, “Le Manoir du Diable”, by George Melies, in 1896.
To this day, when I shower in a motel, I peek out to make sure no knife wielding man is coming to stab me as in Alfred Hitchcock's “Psycho.” Yet, fear doesn't keep me from visiting graveyards or old haunted buildings and I've been to plenty. If you're like me, you visit these places too whether on your own, with friends, or a tour.
One of the most frequently reported ghost sightings is Anne Boleyn, wife of England’s King Henry VIII and mother of Queen Elizabeth I. She was executed at the Tower of London in May 1536 after accusations of witchcraft, treason, incest and adultery. Reportedly, her ghost is seen in the Tower and drifting through her childhood home, Hever Castle, in Kent, England.
In the first century A.D., the great Roman author and statesman Pliny the Younger recorded one of the first notable ghost stories in his letters. He reported the specter [ghost] of an old man with a long beard, rattling chains, haunted his house in Athens. The Greek writer Lucian also wrote memorable ghost stories.
In Germany, 856 A.D., the first poltergeist, a ghost who causes physical disturbances such as loud noises or objects falling or being thrown around, was reported at a farmhouse. The poltergeist tormented the family living there by throwing stones and starting fires, among other things.
Beginning in the late 19th century, Benjamin Franklin’s ghost has been seen near the library of the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Staying true to his reputation of being an eccentric, he has been spotted dancing in front of his statue.
President Abraham Lincoln, assassinated in April 1965, has been frequently observed wandering near the old Springfield capitol building, as well as his nearby law offices. The White House seems to be an active spirit place with First Ladies, queens, and prime ministers reportedly seeing the ghost or feeling the presence of President Lincoln.
In 2013, I was asked to participate in a paranormal investigation of historical sites in San Francisco. It’s been much fun using my psychic talents while investigating the history of some of the city’s interesting haunts such as the once infamous Barbary Coast and the Condor Club. At one point, as I walked through the streets it was as though I went back in time to see men and women of that era. Never have I felt so strongly my movement through parallel dimensions of time and space. Some kind of change was felt within my physical body. I was challenged to remember I was in the present time. The exciting part, besides seeing with my psychic eye events unfold, is the historical research confirming much of my psychic visions and impressions.
My suggestions below for a ghost hunt are for the amateur ghost hunter. Investigators documenting for the advancement of paranormal studies approach ghost encounters differently If you would like to learn more about technical recording equipment this website is a good source, http:www.wikihow.com/Conduct-a-Ghost-Hunt.
• Where you can ghost hunt: Begin where there have been ghost sightings. A good start for the novice ghost investigator is to tour the area you live in or are visiting to find ghost tours. Many cities and towns in most countries have them. They'll take you to the places known for hauntings. You won't have to find locations, get permission to be on the area, or worry about safety. Go to the local tourist office to find a tour. Besides visiting a ghostly place, you’ll learn a lot about local history.
If you don’t take a tour, visit the library to find haunted buildings and locations in the area. Newspapers, town historians, and books can be helpful finding folklore or facts about sites.
Although spirits, ghosts and other entities can show up anywhere at anytime, below are some good places to visit during the night.
Graveyards/Cemeteries are filled with spirits and ghosts. I’ve read some paranormal investigative groups believe there are evil spirits in cemeteries. This could be, but I think because of the many prayers said at cemeteries there are most positive spirits than negative ones. I have yet to come across negative low-grade entities and I've been to many cemeteries, some famous for ghost sightings. If you have fearful, negative thoughts, don't go on a ghost hunt. Remember to empty your bladder before because it may be awhile before you glimpse a spirit. Or, if you do, you may wet your pants.
Schools and former sites of schools: There are highly charged emotional energies, which come along with being young.
Historic buildings house the spirits of many who passed through on business. They are open to the public and may have tours.

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND TO SAN FRANCISCO

Those who followed my writings know my novels settings are in two places, Glasgow, Scotland and San Francisco, California, U.S.A. Both places are close to my heart and life experiences: I was born in Glasgow emigrated in mid-fifties to San Francisco's neighborhood called Eureka Valley, now known to many as the Castro.

Although I became an American citizen in 1962, I grew up in a very traditional Scottish household. Thus I am of both nations. Many stories I heard about "back home" and songs learned, like "Murder, Murder Polis", came past down from parents and our Scottish friends. They were about growing up in Glasgow such as the difficulties Catholics had in the job market, and about my faither's (father) work at the shipyards on the River Clyde, WWII - running at night with an infant and toddler to a bomb shelter, and the happier times of holidays at Ayr with a graveyard as the backyard of the place we stayed. I remember jumping from gravestone to gravestone that laid long on the ground. We spoke differently with words like pokeyhat (ice cream cone) and wee backle  (a small disheveled person) were spoken. To this day I am more comfortable with some pronunciations of words than in the West Coast U.S. way of speaking.

I learned that the English were sassenachs and not well liked in Scotland by many. After all, when taking over the highlands of Scotland they had turned out women and children in the dead of winter to starve and freeze to death  That time was called, The Highland Clearance.

The English wanted the land for sheep grazing, not for inhabitants who had lived there for hundreds of years. Further more they took the traditions and honor of the inhabitants by banning the wearing of the kilt (the highlanders colors), forbidding the bagpipes and Gaelic.

So much trite in such a small country and so much of the discord supported by the conquers through religious division as read in my novel, "The Skye in June".

Is it time for the Scots to have their country back as the Irish have done in the south of of that country?

Tomorrow 9/19/14 we'll learn if Scotland will separated from England. A country that opposed and repressed Scottish people for hundreds of years.

John Oliver's satirical video says it all http://youtu.be/-YkLPxQp_y0

In my novel, The Skye in June,  the answer to the family's unhappiness will be found when they learn the secret connection to the Isle of Skye. You will also enjoy learning
Scottish words, and customs. Same as in my novel, City of Redemption while you dig the San Francisco groovy scene from 1967 - The Summer of Love.

My paranormal and parapsychology books: "How to Talk with Spirits: Seances, Mediums, Ghost Hunts" and "The Timeless Counselor: The Best Guide to a Psychic Reading" are in ebook form (How to Talk with Spirit in paperback due by end of 2016).  On Amazon: or Smashwords.  To learn more about me and follow links to my ghost investigations and hauntings please go to june ahern dot com.
