FILM OF MY BOOK UPDATE

Veronica Cartwright in the movie

You never know what life will surprise you with.

Sometimes it's wow, good news and sometimes not so.

Lived long enough to have experienced both.

This is one of those good news times!

My book, How to Talk With Spirits: Seances, Mediums, Ghost Hunts is in the process of becoming a movie and the latest update - a cool poster of the main character.

This is how it came to be: It's rare I do any private house ghost investigation only I agreed because my friend, Matthew Abaya, movie producer and The Haunted Bay Paranormal Investigations cameraman and editor, asked for his friend Quentin Lee to investigate his family home.

The investigation was a success with questions about resolved for Quentin. At that time I didn't know Quentin was also a seasoned movie producer and screenwriter.

About six months after we met he asked if we could collaborate on a movie from one of my murder cases from the book.

We are - the latest update -goes into production fall of 2021. See the actors onboard.

SPIRIT HORSE: PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS?

ONCE TOUCHED BY THE SPIRIT OF A HORSE

YOUR SOUL IS  FOREVER ENLIGHTENED

BLESSED BE

When a loved one dies, human or animal, too often those grieving think, "I could've done more" or "...something different" experiencing guilt from the inability to have saved the  loved one and kept them with us longer.

I'm no different even though I've received plenty of messages for others from forgiving spirits. The decision to put down my horse plagued my mind and heart.

I worried the decision was premature. Her kind vet supported her being free of a life of continual and worsening pain. She wasn't having a happy horse life.

Still, I was heartbroken. Two days after she died a symbolic gift from her appeared.  On way to bed a bright, shiny penny - looked brand new! laid on the dining room table.

It hadn't been there earlier. Asked the husband, "Did you put this penny here?" No. Even asked the cats; they denied knowing about it.

Putting on my specks I examined the penny's date - 2007 - the year I adopted Luna, my mare.

Could be a coincidence?  Did one of us forget we put it there? Or, was it a sign from the heavens?

A message only two days after her physical death (her spirit lives on) meant to comfort that her transition to the other side of life had been made.

Letting me know she was in a place of comfort -  free to run, buck and roll in the warm dirt, lay in the green pastures, stand under the shade of a tree with no pain.

Luna loved kids and a grandson also got a message five days after her death: in his cereal bowl the last cereal piece in the shape of a horse shoe floated in the milk. Maybe a "hello"?
Luna loved kids

In my book, How to Talk With Spirits: Mediums, Seances, Ghost Hunts I write about the various coin denominations spirits leave as a way of communicating. And, not only coins, but other gifts.

Has your beloved pet sent you a message they made it over the rainbow to enjoy a good time? What was the message?

Kids Loved Luna

PROTECT YOURSELF BEFORE PSYCHIC INTERACTION

You know when you get that “kick in the pants” reminder?

Well, I got mine good and hard when I didn’t take time to protect my mental, emotional, physical, spiritual and psychic energy before embarking on a ghost tour.

Last blog I said I’d share self-protection spell if asked; someone asked.

I had planned to write it while on holiday. Too bad, said the hands of fate, all good plans of mice and men go awry.

My first day at a lovely, quiet place I learned family and friends’ lives and homes were threatened by a raging Northern California fire (worst in the states’ history). In the midst of contacting family an offer to teach a workshop set for early November and I had to send a proposal immediately. Internet connection was down.

Rather than come home refreshed I was mentally and emotionally drained from worry and planning for the workshop.

To top it off I was part of The Haunted Bay’s San Francisco Ghost Tour going back to a place I had previously investigated (see link below). This time I was punched in the head and pushed by an unseen entity. “Oh no! This doesn’t happen to me!”

Then why did it? Worn done mentally and emotionally, I did a brief protection ritual without much focus.

Funny how fate will slap you with one hand while with the other offers redemption.

The next day at my “Wellness” class the teacher went through self-protection techniques, some I’ve forgot and another learned.

I share from the class and from my book, “How to Talk With Spirits: Séances, Mediums, Ghost Hunts” (free on Kindle until 10/28/17 - See link below:)

Before and after interacting with others in spirit, ghostly, and healing way, or at any potentially unpleasant meeting, cleanse your energy. . Mentally clear your space before channeling and receiving psychic information. You can pray, chant and/or sing - all raises positive vibrations in and around you

Imagine sitting in a clear white bubble. It can also be a pastel blue or pink.
Smudge with a smudge stick or encircle yourself with incense if you wish.
Ground yourself by visualizing your feet (or go outside and stand barefoot on the earth) standing firmly connected to the earth. Say, I am safe.
Using water to clean more than the body: Cup the water and let it dribble up your arms as you move to the crown of your head, now wipe down your arms and out through your fingertips, flicking off as though riding yourself of all negative thoughts and feelings.

Protection Spell

Sit in a quiet space with a white candle lit and incense and flowers if you wish. You might add a crystal and/or a serene image.
Enjoy the beauty of that space. Pay attention to your breath, regular breathing, in and out, calming and easy. Do this for about five to ten minutes or longer.
Then visualize a safe space, a circle of light colored energy surrounding you.
Say aloud: Only good can enter herein.
Call in the Divine One whom you connect to: guardian, angel, guide, God, Jesus, Goddess, Buddha, or Allah - you chose:
I call in _______ to be with me. Together we create energy to empower my spirit and protect me from all that can potentially harm me.
I do this with confidence and pureness of intention with harm to none and only for the greater good.
I wear this shield of protection whenever needed.
So Mote it Be. Therefore it is.
Sit for as long as you like enjoying the positive energy around you. Snuff out your candle before leaving.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN GHOSTS?

The Boundaries, which divide Life From Death
are at best shadowy and vague. Who shall say
where the one ends, and where the other begins?
– Edgar Allan Poe –

What are you're thoughts about ghosts?

The belief in ghosts is new. Throughout history people have had ghost encounters (read more below.)

As I continue my book tour with my latest book, How To Talk With Spirits:
Seances, Mediums, Ghost Hunts, I meet many who have paranormal experiences that share and ask why, how, and is it for real

My tour continues into July where I will be part of a Ghost Play production, speaking to the audience after the event and answering questions. The interest in ghosts is not new as I wrote in my book,

QUESTIONS FROM THE CURIOUS LIVING
Excerpt:
PEOPLE ARE CURIOUS about and perplexed by what happens after death, or if anything does happen at all. They wonder what the spirits of the dead might appear as, how they will manifest and what kind of messages will they give. They want to know why the spirits communicate, and if the spirits or ghosts should be feared.

"For centuries people from many different cultures, countries, and religions shared stories about ghosts and their sightings. The concept of ghosts, as hopeful evidence of life after death, goes all the way back to ancient Egypt. Then it was commonly believed death was merely a transition to some mysterious netherworld of existence. In the first century A.D. during the Roman Empire period, the great Roman author and statesman Pliny the Younger recorded one of the first notable ghost stories in letters. He reported the “specter” [ghost] of an old man with a long beard, rattling chains, haunted his house in Athens. There are many ghost stories about England’s Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII, haunting the Tower of London to sightings of Benjamin Franklin’s ghost seen near the library of the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia."

I answer the question, what is the difference between ghosts and spirits - this is what I'll address at my talk (it's in my book too).

TALK TO SPIRITS: KEEP IT SIMPLE

I wish I could say one more thing, just one more time to say, "I really loved you," or "You were so good in my life."

Wishing for a chance to talk with the loved one who passed on. Gone from your life.

Or, has she? Will he never be with you again? You can communicate with them, and they with you.
What will you say?

For an opportunity to do so, keep it simple to get your message across. The telepathic airwaves are fill of energy with a lot of chattering all over the world - many thoughts going on, sent out - incoming. Enough to drive people mad!

Too many words, too many questions, too long - in spirit talk/communication the message becomes complicated to decipher and answer especially in distressed states.

Think when you've been wrapped up in grief, crying, (sobbing) and someone attempts to comfort you. Hard to hear them, isn't it?

Over complicated messages are lost in translation. An example: "Oh (NAME), I'm so horribly lonely, I cry every night. Life is too hard without you. Why did you go?! How could you leave me?"

Complaining has mixed emotions: "Daddy, Bobby is still the rotten brother he always was. I love him but, I hate how he is to me. I'm so sad without your shoulder. Can you help me?"

What goes out? High pitch noises twirling through the ethers, sparking off other confused messages.

Keep it simple. Like Twitter, don't use too many words, as a Morse code, tap, tap, repeat, tap, tap, repeat. Here are some helpful suggestions: In a quiet space - no phones -no pets - sit sit still, take some deep breaths.

Often when we want to talk with our dead we're crying, emotionally distraught - understandably so, but this won't help with getting your message across.

If you can, think of the person in a good light, perhaps a cheerful memory, or favorite photo.
Keep the image in mind as you begin your simple clear message.

Start with a greeting. Sometimes in a  group spirit communication (seance) the medium asks a participant to call out her or his dead person's name, maybe even three times. You can can also do that. I.e. Mary, pause, Mary, (see her face), Mary.

Add a salutation: Mary, my love, Mary, Mom, Friend - hello, hi, it's me.

Mary, my love or Mary, hello love, it's me, (your name).

Pause. Take a moment to gather in your emotions. It's often very emotional when communicating to those who have passed physically from our lives. Keep them upbeat as possible.

You might sense a presence, or an unseen hand on your arm, the room might chill or even a warmth spread across your heart.

Now to your purpose of communicating. You start with a question (usually does) or a statement. Keep the words brief and simple:

 I miss you.
What is like where you are?
Can you hear me?
Are you pain free?
Are you still with me?
I love you.

Give a news update of your life: Your grand(son or daughter) is a happy kid, a smart one etc. Or, I did get that job like you said I would.

Pause. Wait for a few moments or longer, keep in mind a good memory, relax, smile, open your heart. Perhaps you will feel, hear, sense, or mentally see a response.

To learn more about spirit communication and how they communicate back, read about my knowledge, education and spirit experiences (working with the police, attacked by vampire spirits) in How To Talk With Spirits: Seances, Mediums, Ghost Hunts.

SELF-PUBLISH AUTHOR'S TRIAL BY FIRE

clack clack, creation of thoughts are in progress

Indie authors
Be brave.
Be bold. Be confident.
Be an independent thinker!

I call my decision to become independent author trial by fire, hooping from one hot coal of errors, fears, and uncertainties. With good luck and some practical steps I arrived to the cool ground of reward –– happy readers and the sale of books.

Self-publishing has been a wondrous, challenging, and at times disappointing journey. One of my biggest joys for being an indie author is the myriad of people I've met book partying across the United States and also through social media. Many book lovers have kept in touch through emails asking for more! Now, that is supportive.

In reflection I’m not surprised at my decision to become an independent author and happy to know my decision joined me with other brave self publishing authors, writers who knew their writings would have an audience: James Joyce (Ulysses), Beatrix Potter (The Adventures of Peter Rabbit) and many other well-known writers I’ve enjoyed; Zane Grey, Upton Sinclair, Deepak Chopra, Louise Hay, Mark Twain to name but a few.

My adventurous and curious spirit of looking down the rabbit hole motivated me to give writing and publishing a try. I think of myself as a rather independent person. The last thing I want to hear is, “You can’t do that!” and “That won’t work.” My impatience was the guiding force to self-publish. I didn't bother looking for an agent until all my books were selling. The thought of delay with hopeful wishing for an agent and/or publisher to tell me my book was good enough to publish, interesting enough to sell, didn’t appeal to me.

I freely admit I’ve committed acts of wrong doings as an author according to those in the writing publishing world that know best.I could say mea culpa three times and vow not to err again, but no doubt I’d backslide and commit some other editing, formatting or whatever blunders acceptable to the publishing and writing world.

My decision with my latest non-fiction was blasted by a reviewer as placing the Q&A as a first chapter. Not done! she her review screamed. No, it's done I thought, which was supported when I read Carol Burnett asks her audience what's most enjoyable and important to them BEFORE her show begins. She then gives it them. I knew what my audience would want because the questions came from many who were interested in that book.

Although, some decisions and errors have caused grueling angst. For instance when hiring editors and especially proofreaders don't be impatient. Ask for referrals, look at what they've worked on. I sure wish I had. The saying " the buck stops here" will ring true when reviewers find errors.

It wasn't my intention to entertain the masses, or become famous (the thought has lingered in my fantasy at times) when I wrote a book. In fact all four of my books were written upon a request and advice from another. My first, a non-fiction parapsychology consumer’s guide, self-published in 1990, was written to advance my profession and it did. It became a true group effort of supportive friends bumbling through the publishing process. The woman who suggested and encouraged it lent me an old clumsy PC, a friend went through my written notes and attempt at putting it on a computer so she could straighten the words into some sense. My mother helped me write it, and a professional proofreader client traded services. It was printed quite economically at a small San Francisco publishing business, stapled (yes big staples) after hours at a Kinko copy shop because the friend owed me a favor, and put together by a group of eager friends in my basement to the beat of Motown and salsa music accompanied by pizza and wine.

Each book thereafter continued to be a group effort, although more professional, effort. I hired editors, proofreaders (not always do their job correctly by the way), graphic designers and a self-publishing company.

My advise to fellow writers is to not follow my crooked path, rather save yourself stress and money and keep at bay potentially bad reviews. Before publishing make sure your book is in shipshape order. You can do this by sharing the process with those more learned than yourself. But the bottom line will be decide what really is best for you, fellow writers, when it comes time to self publish or look for an agent.

About marketing - probably the hardest part of majority of authors - don't put your work out into the world if you're thinned skinned, don't think everyone will love it, and especially prepare to market your product if you hope to at least make your money back. One of the best marketing advice I heard is, books don't sell themselves, authors sell books. Get out there, talk it up when possible, ask for reviews. Good luck. Have fun.
